BOLTON’S young writers are being urged to put pen to paper to help bridge the generation gap.
Bolton and District Over-50s Federation, in association with Age UK Bolton, is running its third young people’s essay competition with the aim of promoting better understanding between the generations.
The competition is divided into two age groups.
Youngsters up to and including Year Seven, who attend school in the borough, are being encouraged to write a 100 to 200-word essay on the subject “How does it feel to be old?”.
Senior school pupils in the borough are asked to write their essays of 1,000 to 1,500 words on the subject of “Our ageing society”.
There will be a prize of £100 for the junior winning entry and £200 for the senior entry.
Certificates of merit will be awarded to the finalists in both sections.
All finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony in May.
